am. light drizzle. reasonable breakfast in hotel. Walked to Polynesian Spa. Hot pools - 42 degrees - felt like T.bag, good juice after. Then walk. Back to hotel - rest. Sore eyes.

The watery theme continues, in celebration of day six of rain (showers and drizzle today not downpours), we decided to embrace the damp and spend the morning in Rotorua's Polynesian Spa. The hottest pool is 42°, all are sulphurous, and most have a view of the steaming lake. We feel so rejuvenated that we are ready for an afternoon snooze.
We took a slow amble around downtown Rotorua, then the combination of heat treatment and jet-lag led to an afternoon slump. We headed back to the hotel and must have had a snooze as I can't remember a thing until later that evening.

Outside pools have view of the lake. |
looks grey - but warm - muggy even. |
Our 'package' included use of a private spa for 30 minutes. |
The main pools work up from pleasantly warm to very hot. |
A rejuvenating smoothie afterwards. |
Sometimes mainstreet New Zealand can look quite transatlantic. |
The Pig and Whistle is a national pub chain - the one in Rotorua occupies the former police station. |
Rotorua is an interesting ambience - saved from being simply a tourist trap by being a major Maori population centre. |
Back to Atticus Finch - not quite so stellar as yesterday - but delicious nonetheless. |
One of the finds of the trip - a taste for Affogato - how have travelled the length of Italy and not discovered it before? |
