Gill's notes:
Milford Sound - Te Anau. Woke up 6am. - alarm. Quick breakfast - OK. Out on deck - beautiful morning, clouds but not raining. Out to sea - swell - then back to waterfall - v. good. 9.15am. back in car. Drove to Te Anau. Lunch at cafe - tomato soup - just toms! Walked around bottom of lake - v. tired. Some birds in aviary - mainly sparrows? Cooked in room - ok. Tired. Thunderstorm.
Maybe it was the effect of a pre-dawn start but I don't recall much of the journey from Milford Sound back to Te Anau. Sometimes browsing through a few photos later triggers my memory. Sadly somehow the data has become all scrambled and its not possible to put the hundreds of pictures we took of the South Is in date order. Very frustrating.
For example, my memory tells me that we stopped to lok at some poppies on the way to Te Anau, but that can't be the case because Gill's FB post about them is from the following day.
It would appear we took no photos at all in Te Anau, the terrible soup, underwhelming aviary, the afternoon stroll around the lake, all duly ignored so far as their photographic potential was concerned. I do seem to recall having a conversation beside the lake with a retired British Asian couple from the West Midlands, otherwise the day has gone completely.
